MANILA -- “Cool Down,” James Reid’s first single from his latest album “Palm Dreams” is an instant hit, reaching the No. 1 spot in iTunes Philippines immediately after it was released.

The music video of the infectious track titled shows Reid heading to the beach with his friends in an attempt to escape the city life.

The actor, however, explained in an interview with MYX that the music video is actually a reflection of what he went through at one point in his life.

“The ‘Cool Down’ music video is one of three. It’s actually a story. It’s supposed to represent the time of my life when I didn’t really know what I was doing in showbiz. I just wanted to get out of the city, escape, run away with friends. In the end, you see Nadine (Lustre),” he said.

Reid said his girlfriend is “supposed to represent the start of something big in my life.”

“Everyone gives their own meaning to the ending. They are quite right. I read the comments on YouTube and they have hit the nail on the head. They got it. Nadine wasn’t actually there but it was like she was on my mind,” he said.

Sharing his own interpretation of the music video’s ending, Reid said: “Nadine marks the time of my life where everything changed.”

Reid and Lustre have been in a relationship for over a year now.
