Former Ateneo volleyball star Alyssa Valdez is set for her acting debut for the romance-drama film “My Letters to Happy,” which is scheduled for release in July.

But first, her acting skills got tested on the spot by TV host Boy Abunda, when Valdez sat down for an interview on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” in its episode aired Monday.

Valdez was asked to re-enact a line from one of her favorite movies, “Got to Believe,” with different emotions. The results had Abunda clapping as he commended the showbiz neophyte’s acting.

“My Letters to Happy” follows a couple, portrayed by TJ Trinidad and Glaiza de Castro, as trying times force them to face the decision of whether to give up or continue fighting for their relationship.

“Most relationships are complicated,” Valdez explained. “‘Pag may napagdaanang kaunting problema, aalisan mo agad ‘yung taong mahal mo. In this movie, malalaman mo na may mga tao rin pala na kahit ano’ng mangyari, kahit gaano kasakit, kahit ano’ng pinagdadaanan, mag-si-stay. They’re not going to leave you, they’re not going to quit.”

Directed by Pertee Brinas, “My Letters to Happy” hits cinemas nationwide on July 17.
