MANILA – A documentary on the life of singer Jake Zyrus was recognized at the 2020 US International Film and Video Festival.
“Jake and Charice” received the Gold Camera award for the documentary under the social issues category of the global award-giving body.
The documentary follows the coming out journey of the Kapamilya singer and how his decision to become a transgender man has changed his life.
It also features the challenges he faced as well as the things he went through in finding his own voice.
The video was produced by the Tokyo-based NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) and Documentary Japan in association with NHK Enterprises, and co-produced by ABS-CBN.
“Jake and Charice” premiered in Japan in November 2019.
The US International Film and Video Festival started in 1967, recognizing creative excellence in corporate, education, entertainment, documentary and student productions worldwide.
