MANILA — Black Sheep on Thursday announced that its first boys' love (BL) series, "Hello, Stranger," will be free to stream starting June 24.
The ABS-CBN Films outfit released new posters of the project, which stars Tony Labrusca as Xavier and JC Alcantara as Mico.
"Hello, Stranger" will be available via the Facebook page and YouTube channel of Black Sheep, it said.
The teaser posters also came with an official "ship" or pairing name for the lead characters, #XavMi — a portmanteau similar to those of real-life love teams KathNiel, JaDine, and LizQuen.
The cast also includes Gillian Vicencio, Vivoree Esclito, Patrick Quiroz, and Migs Almendras in yet-specified roles.
Directed by Petersen Vargas ("2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten"), "Hello, Stranger" is billed as the first digital series of Black Sheep, following the success of its big-screen offerings such as "Alone/Together" and "Isa Pa with Feelings," among others.
The production comes amid the boom of the BL genre's popularity in the Philippines, owing to the Thai series "2gether," which consistently topped local Twitter trends during its run early this year.
"2gether" is such a hit it is set to air locally, with Filipino dubbing, via Kapamilya Channel, while its sequel will be simulcast on the same channel when its premieres in late 2020.
