MANILA ā€” Black Sheep on Tuesday introduced the cast of its upcoming boys love (BL) series "Hello, Stranger," including the onscreen partner of lead star Tony Labrusca.

Labrusca will star opposite JC Alcantara, who may be familiar to ABS-CBN viewers as the character Bogs in the 2018 primetime drama "Halik." "Hello, Stranger" marks Alcantara's first lead role in a series.

Labrusca, who has starred as lead in numerous film and TV projects, was the first cast member of "Hello, Stranger" named earlier this week.

Aside from the two romantic leads, Gillian Vicencio, Vivoree Esclito, Patrick Quiroz, and Miguel Almendras were announced on Monday as part of the cast.

"Hello, Stranger" will be directed by Petersen Vargas ("2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten") and is billed as the first digital series of Black Sheep, following the success of its big-screen offerings such as "Alone/Together" and "Isa Pa with Feelings," among others.

Its release date has yet to be announced.

The production comes amid the boom of the BL genre's popularity in the Philippines, owing to the Thai series "2gether," which consistently topped local Twitter trends during its run early this year.

"2gether" is such a hit it's set to air locally, with Filipino dubbing, via Kapamilya Channel, while its sequel will be simulcast on the same channel when its premieres in late 2020.
