MANILA - Theater veteran Tony Mabesa is “devastated” over what happened to his "Rainbow Sunsets" co-star Eddie Garcia.

Garcia, 90, sustained a severe cervical fracture after tripping and falling while shooting a scene for a GMA 7 series last June 8.

The injury led to his “comatose state with minimal spontaneous respiration.”

“Devastated. And angry in a sense, na bakit naman napatid [sa kable] ang Eddie Garcia? Eh alam naman nila, action scene... dapat
'yun, kini-clear,” lamented Mabesa while speaking to PEP on Saturday.

Based on the most recent update from their spokesperson, Garcia’s family has already agreed to place the multi-awarded actor, who remains comatose, on DNR or “do-not-resuscitate” status.

Mabesa and Garcia have worked together countless times, the most recent of which was the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Rainbow Sunsets.”

Along with Gloria Romero, all three were supposed to receive their certificate of acting nomination for their performance in the film on the day of Mabesa’s interview with PEP.

Seemingly frustrated, Mabesa said: “Sabi ko nga when I came here... kung okay si Eddie, unang-una ‘yan dito!”

In the same interview, he recalled how they were taken care of while filming “Rainbow Sunsets.”

“Ano naman si Joel (Lamangan), actor’s director talaga. Ganoon. Alagang-alaga kami,” he said.

“I’ve worked with them many, many times, at sabi ko nga, there’s a saying sa theater, ‘You’re only as good as your co-actor.’ So nadadala ka kapag magagaling ang kaeksena mo. At alam mo naman sa set ni Joel, you’re there to work,” he added.
