MANILA – Congressman Mikee Romero of the 1-PACMAN party-list is asking for prayers for multi-awarded actor Eddie Garcia, who is the longtime partner of his mom Lillibeth Romero.

Romero said he has yet to know more about the current condition of his step-father, but the family would appreciate it if everyone could say a prayer not just for Garcia, but also for his mother.

“Actually I am not in the position to talk because I haven’t talked to my mom regarding this,” he said in an interview with dzMM early this week.

“We need prayers not just for Tito Eddie but for my mom as well. He’s still alive but very, very critical. Ipagdasal niyo po, please,” he added.

Saying what he knows, Cong. Romero said: “Unfortunately naaksidente siya and he tripped sa wire while doing a shooting. Talagang he fell face down. Naalog 'yung brain niya and 'yung C1 and C2 sa neck niya, nag-snap which made him very unconscious up to today.”

Garcia, 90, sustained a neck fracture after tripping and falling down while shooting a TV series for GMA Network last June 8.

He was first taken to the Mary Johnston Hospital for treatment before being transferred to the Makati Medical Center on Sunday.

An update from the hospital's spokesperson on Tuesday revealed that Garcia remains in “a comatose state with minimal spontaneous respiration."

Meanwhile, Lillibeth opened up for the first time about Garcia’s current state in an interview with The Philippine Star’s Ricky Lo.

Lillibeth said everything was normal before Garcia left the house in the morning of the accident.

“Everything was the usual. As he used to, he was smiling when he bade me goodbye. At the ICU, I keep on whispering to him, never mind if he doesn’t respond at all, not even with a slight movement of his fingers,” she said.

Lillibeth is also certain that Garcia was in perfect shape because they undergo an executive check-up once every three months.

“His blood pressure and blood sugar were normal and he even campaigned [for a party list] in the last May 13 elections, staying under the oppressive sun for hours. I was with him, prepared with towels, drinks, and sandwiches. So I was devastated when I saw that accident on the video clip. And it had to happen in line of work! I saw the video only once and I don’t want to see it again,” she explained.

While she is not pointing fingers at anyone, Lillibeth believes the accident could have been prevented only if someone from GMA 7 was “manning the set.”

“I was told that the accident happened on the third shoot of the same scene from another angle, and they should have checked the condition of the street and if cable wires were scattered all around. It was an accident that could have been prevented,” she said.
