MANILA — Hollywood star Will Smith, who plays the wish-granting Genie in the live-action remake of "Aladdin," turned the tables on Morissette as he asked the Kapamilya singer to grant his wish instead.

Morissette came face-to-face with Smith, as well as "Aladdin" composer Alan Menken, as part of the international promotion of the Disney movie.

The "ASAP Natin 'To" mainstay had earlier been picked to record the Philippine version of "A Whole New World," an iconic tune from the animated classic, with fellow ABS-CBN star Darren Espanto.

Espanto was supposed to also meet Smith and Menken in Tokyo, but had prior commitments, according to Morissette.

"Lea told me about you!" Menken told Morissette.

He was referring to Filipino Broadway star Lea Salonga, an official "Disney Legend" who provided the singing voices of Princess Jasmine in the original "Aladdin" and of the titular character of "Mulan."

"Lea's such a sweetheart!" Morissette said.

Smith, too, appeared to have prior knowledge of Morissette's talent, asking her to perform live a "specific song from this movie that you do really well."

"I know I'm supposed to be the Genie, but, you know, can the Genie have a wish? Because when you have the master and the lovely voice of Morissette here, I mean, I would like to make the wish that I hear the two of you," he said.

Morissette went on to do a duet of "A Whole New World" with Menken, prompting applause from Smith and the composer.

The key, it turned out, was higher than expected with Menken on piano. He quipped, "I don't even know if it's in the right key for you."

"It was so high," Morissette said, triggering laughter, "but we made it, it's okay! We made it happen! Oh my gosh."

An impressed Menken added, "You hit some great notes there though!"
