'On the Job' gets picked up for U.S. release

MANILA, Philippines – The crime thriller “On the Job,” starring Kapamilya stars Piolo Pascual and Gerald Anderson, will be shown in North America, after it was picked up by Well Go USA in Cannes, France.

“On the Job,” directed by Erik Matti, held its world premiere last week at the Director’s Fortnight of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

But even before its screening, independent distributor Well Go USA announced that it has acquired all North American rights to “On the Job,” a co-production of Reality Entertainment and Star Cinema.

"'On The Job' reiterates that it is an exciting time for Filipino cinema," said Well Go USA Entertainment president Doris Pfardrescher, as quoted by the website Indiewire. "We are thrilled we were able to acquire the movie before its premiere in Cannes and can’t wait to bring it to audiences in North America."

Well Go USA plans to release the Filipino in the U.S. in the fall, the website.

"All the hard work and patience has paid off," the website quoted Matti as saying. "After almost four years, we have finally seen this movie cross over internationally. And we are happy that our company, Reality Entertainment, is at the forefront of bringing Filipino movies to a wider, more competitive market thanks to XYZ and Well Go."

"On The Job" stars Pascual as a National Bureau of Investigation agent hunting down a hitman on the run played by Anderson. The Kapamilya actors are joined in the film by Shaina Magdayao, Joel Torre, Joey Marquez and Angel Aquino.
