MANILA — Toni Gonzaga is requesting her father, Carlito “Bonoy” Gonzaga, to shift his focus back on their family, following his loss in the elections where he sought the mayoral seat of Taytay, Rizal.

Mr. Gonzaga, the incumbent vice mayor of Taytay, trailed by some 20,000 votes behind Joric Gacula, who has been reelected for a fresh term.

Toni, one of the most visible TV personalities in local showbiz, as well as her sister and social media star Alex, were seen as a boon to the mayoral bid of their father.

Leading up to the elections, he made frequent appearances in his daughters’ respective vlogs. They also had an active role in Mr. Gonzaga’s campaign tour.

Speaking for the first time about the election results, Toni expressed gratitude to Taytay residents who supported her father and their family.

“May relief,” she said, referring to the end of the campaign trail. “Makakahinga na nang maluwag na kahit paano, makakapahinga na at makakapag-focus na on the future.”

Asked whether Mr. Gonzaga is setting sights on a political comeback in the future, Toni said: “Sa ngayon, we want him to enjoy his life, spend time with his family first. For how many years, he’s been dedicating his life to public service. Sabi ko, mag-focus muna siya sa family, and enjoy his time with his apo, si Seve.”

Seve is Toni’s son with her husband, filmmaker Paul Soriano.

“Sabi namin, baka it’s time with the family muna, for this season in his life. Family muna! Kasi for 12 years bayan ang una. E ngayon, family muna,” she said.
