MANILA—With auditions for the coveted role of Darna in full swing, fan-favorite Nadine Lustre said she is willing to undergo Star Cinema’s selection process, and would treat the requisite training as a responsibility, if she were chosen.
Lustre was once again quizzed on the high-profile project on Friday, during a press conference about her recent best actress win at FAMAS.
She referred to the Mars Ravelo character as a “Filipino icon, a symbol of hope, and a protector,” saying she is “amazed” that her name ranks among the popular fan choices to bring Darna to life.
“I’m not expecting anything, and I’m not the kind of person who’s assuming. Alam ko naman po ibibigay nila ‘yung role sa taong deserving,” she said.
A day prior to the press event, Star Cinema announced that it is set to hold open auditions for aspirants this weekend, via Star Hunt. The search is in addition to an earlier round of casting call for actresses, models, and athletes across talent agencies, according to Star Cinema head Olivia Lamasan.
When asked if she is also willing audition for Darna, Lustre said: “‘Pag sinabahan po ako, gagawin ko. I’m very open to everything… Hindi pa po [ako sinabihan], but if they ask me, of course I would want do it. Sino naman pong ayaw maging Darna, ‘di ba?”
Lustre also brought up former Darna actress Angel Locsin as a dream co-star during the media huddle, prompting more questions about the possibility of her inheriting the iconic role.
If she gets chosen to portray Darna, Lustre assured that she would dedicate time to preparations for the big-screen project. In fact, she is “excited” for the prospect of doing stunts and harness training, among others, saying she’s always wanted to star in an action movie.
“Siyempre po [handa ako], kasi malaking responsibilidad po ‘yun, e. Siyempre si Darna ‘yun, Filipino icon. Hindi ka puwedeng magkamali talaga,” she said.
