MANILA — “Search for the Idol Philippines” debuted on Sunday as the No. 1 weekend program in the country, data from Kantar Media showed.

The ABS-CBN iteration of the global singing competition garnered a nationwide rating of 30.6% on April 21. That’s more than double the viewership of its rival program, “Studio 7,” which only got 13.2%.

In the digital space, “Idol Philippines” also made a big splash. Its official YouTube channel, just 18 hours after it pilot episode, drew 100,000 subscribers.

It dominated trending topics on Twitter in the Philippines, with at least 14 terms related to the show ranking in the list, including the first-placed #IdolPhilippines.

The maiden telecast of “Idol Philippines” showed the first batch of singing aspirants, with judges Regine Velasquez, Vice Ganda, James Reid, and Moira dela Torre handing golden tickets to deserving talents.
