MANILA -- A local adaptation of the Korean TV series "Pure Love" is being developed by ABS-CBN, one of its cast members confirmed.
The SBS series, which originally aired in South Korea as "49 Days" in May 2011, had its Philippine run the same year on ABS-CBN.
"Dugong Buhay" actress Yam Concepcion, a cast member of the upcoming Kapamilya adaptation, said she will co-star in the series with Alex Gonzaga and Arjo Atayde.
Speaking with ABS-CBN News' Mario Dumaual, Concepcion said she will portray an antagonist for the first time in ABS-CBN's "Pure Love."
"Sa huli, ako 'yung magiging pure. Pero at the beginning, I'll be the kontrabida here. It's my first time to ever portray a kontrabida," said Concepcion, who made her showbiz debut in 2012.
Asked if she hopes the new project will be her breakout role, Concepcion said, "I hope so. We'll see, we'll see. Mahirap magsalita nang tapos. Baka maudlot. We'll see when we're there!"
The originaL TV series centered on optimistic bride-to-be Ji-hyun (Nam Gyu-ri), who ends up comatose after a massive pile-up.
In her state of coma, Ji-Hyun is told by the "angel of death" that it is not yet her time to die and that she will wake up again if she fulfills a mission -- gather three teardrops shed out of pure love by three people not related to her by blood within the next 49 days.
The task proves more difficult, however, when Ji-Hyun finds herself in the body of Yi-kyung, a depressed woman whose attempt to kill herself triggered the pile-up.
Concepcion did not specify which characters she, Gonzaga, and Atayde will portray.
"They're pretty fun people, especially si Alex," Concepcion said of her co-stars. "Minsan nga ang hirap ka-eksena siya, kasi she's very hilarious as a person, very funny, mapagbiro, so parang ang hirap talaga niyang seryosohin especially pag may eksena kami."
Atayde, who portrayed an antagonist in "Dugong Buhay," will mark his second project with Concepcion in "Pure Love." The upcoming series is also Gonzaga's first starring role in an ABS-CBN soap since her transfer to the Kapamilya network last year.
