'Kitchen Musical' bags 2 awards in New York

MANILA, Philippines - The pan-Asian hit TV series "The Kitchen Musical" won gold world medal for best writing and a bronze world medal for best performance for the entire cast at the 2012 New York Festival on Tuesday night.

The genre-busting TV series is about a rich, young girl (played by "It's Showtime" host Karylle) fresh out of culinary school who embarks on a journey of self-discovery when she starts working for The Avilon, her father’s restaurant.

Others Filipinos in the cast include singer Christian Bautista and New York-based stage actor Arthur Acuña.

This June, "The Kitchen Musical" is also nominated at the 2012 Monte Carlo Festival for Best Drama Series. It also bagged nominations for Karylle as Best Actress and for Acuna and Stephen Rahman Hughes in the Best Actor category.

"The Kitchen Musical" also features Kapamilya star Christian Bautista.

The second season of The Kitchen Musical” will start in May, according to a statement from Studio 23, which will again air the ground-breaking series.
