MANILA — The hit afternoon drama “Kadenang Ginto” once again led trends on social media Thursday with the climactic return of Romina (Beauty Gonzales) in the Mondragon mansion, resulting in another intense confrontation with her step-daughter Daniela (Dimples Romana).

In the April 11 episode of the Dreamscape production, Romina asserted her ownership of the house left behind by her late husband Robert (Albert Martinez).

The mansion had been in the middle of Romina and Daniela’s tug of war following Robert’s death. For a time it was in Daniela’s control, during Romina’s incarceration after being wrongfully accused of killing Robert.

For a time Romina settled for living in a shanty home after being freed from jail, but with the arson masterminded by Daniela, the vengeful widow finally took steps to reclaim the mansion — even if that meant sharing it with Daniela.

Daniela could only protest and threaten Romina, but ultimately had no legal grounds to evict her step-mother from the mansion. In fact, Romina said she could technically charge Daniela for trespassing, as the Mondragon home is legally under her name, supposedly as stated in Robert’s will.

As expected, the four-way face-off among Romina, Daniela, and their respective daughters Cassie (Francine Diaz) and Marga (Andrea Brillantes) sparked heated confrontations that had viewers cheering for the returning Mondragons.

By the end of the episode, its official hashtag, #KGMrsMondragon, was the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter. “Romina,” likewise, ranked among the most talked about topics on the social platform.

“Kadenang Ginto” has recently made strides in its nationwide viewership. It broke its own record four times just within March, pushing its all-time highest rating to 26.9%.
