Box-office superstar Vice Ganda, who is known for his pop performances and fashion choices that involve cross-dressing, got candid on his actual sexual identity in the live episode of "It's Showtime" Tuesday.
The 42-year-old comedian opened up about the topic during the Miss Q&A segment, after asking a contestant whether he or she identifies as a gay man or a transgender woman.
The contestant, Eula Vega, answered she identifies as a woman, prompting further conversation about sexual expression.
Noting that he is an occasional cross-dresser, most recently as seen in his vacation photos on Instagram, he considers himself as a gay man, and not a transgender woman.
"I'm a bakla!" Vice Ganda quipped. "Hindi ko naman dama na babae ako, e."
An advocate of LGBTQ rights (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer), Vice Ganda has used his social media reach and the daily noontime telecast of "It's Showtime" as platforms to raise awareness on relevant issues.
Most recently, he gave his own answer to a question fielded in the Binibining Pilipinas pageant, about having a dedicated restroom for members of LGBTQ community.
"Para sa akin, bago pa 'yung mga CR na 'yan, let's educate the people kung ano ang ibig sabihin ng LGBTQ, para maunawaan. If we understand each other and we are more compassionate, hindi isyu ang CR. Walang mababastos kung nagkaka-unawaan tayong lahat. Transwomen are women, transmen are men," he said at the time.
