Former love team Hero Angeles and Sandara Park. ABS-CBN
MANILA - Hero Angeles and Sandara Park haven't spoken in 10 years.
"Hindi ko masabi [kung maayos ang relasyon namin]," he said, "pero huling nakausap ko siya 2005, premiere night nung movie namin ('Can This Be Love'). Hindi ko pa siya nakikita ulit."
The returning ABS-CBN star was being asked whether he is on good terms with Park, who is now one-fourth of the K-pop girl group 2NE1, during a live interview on "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" on Wednesday.
In a past interview, Angeles admitted that he and Park did not have a good relationship despite having to appear sweet for their fans.
"Ano siya, weird," he said at the time. "Parang cartoons siya dati. Iba 'yung kultura niya, nila. Iba 'yung trip niya. Pero may mga kasundo naman siya. Kasundo ko naman, pero lagi kami nag-aaway. Hindi ko alam, pero parang palagi mainit 'yung ulo niya sakin."
At one point, Angeles recalled, he confronted Park about her behavior towards him. This, however, only strained their ties further.
He narrated: "Kinausap ako nu'n dati, may nakakita nga nu'n eh. Nakatulala siya sa table. Nilapitan ko, sabi ko, 'Anong problema mo?' Tiningnan ako, sabi, 'I don't like you.' Sabi ko, 'Bakit, may ginawa ba ako?' Tapos hindi siya umiimik."
Park returned to her native South Korea in 2007 to start a similar career there. Two years later, she was launched along with three others as 2NE1, considered now as one of the most successful K-pop acts in recent history.
While Park has been regularly seeing her batch mates in "Star Circle Quest," the talent search that launched her tandem with Angeles in 2004, the former actor admittedly has been oblivious to any of the reunions.
"Wala ako doon," he said. "Hindi ko lang talaga alam. Wala rin akong koneksyon. Meron sigurong invitation na hindi ko lang alam, pero friends naman kami nila Melissa [Ricks] and Neri [Naig] sa Facebook."
Asked if he believes he would have been a "bigger star" today, had it not been for issues that plagued the start of his career, Angeles readily came to the defense of his brother Henry.
In the past, Angeles claimed that Park's departure drastically affected his career. The alleged mishandling of his showbiz engagements by Henry, his manager at the time, only served to aggravate the situation.
"I don't know, hindi ko masabi," Angeles responded to host Boy Abunda's question. "Hindi naman ako nagsisi sa mga nangyari. Sabi ko nga, lahat ng bagay, may dahilan."
After recently appearing in "ASAP" for its 20th anniversary, Angeles can be seen currently on ABS-CBN's "Kapamilya Deal or No Deal." He is part of the third batch of "Lucky Stars" -- 20 celebrities who take turns in trying to win P1 million -- on the afternoon game show.
