MANILA, Philippines - Young actor Enchong Dee has finally responded to reports saying he is gay.
In an interview during the press conference of his film, "Paano Ko Sasabihin," with his on-screen partner Erich Gonzales, Dee said he is aware of the reports alleging that he is a homosexual.
"Opo (narinig ko na po 'yon). Bahala na po sila. Wala na po (akong magagawa). Kumbaga, simula po noon hanggang ngayon, wala po akong ginagawang masama pero kapag ganyan, may mga lumalabas nga," Dee said.
The actor said he does not know when and how the issue started, but stressed he does not really care since he knows he's not gay.
Asked if he believes that the issue surfaced since he is now popular, the actor replied: "Hindi ko din po alam. Siguro."
Other than the reports that he is gay, Dee said there's also a rumor that he is a gay benefactor.
"Kung hindi naman (bakla), gay benefactor ka naman, either or," he said.
Erich defends Enchong
While others say Dee belongs to the third sex, his long time screen partner and rumored girlfriend Erich Gonzales, defended the actor.
Gonzales maintained the rumors aren't true.
She believes the reports about the actor's sexuality come with being in showbiz.
"Kasi it's normal para sa isang lalaki na kapag nasa showbiz ka, hindi talaga pwede na wala yong gay issue," Gonzales said.
As someone who's close to Enchong, Gonzales said she knows what the truth is and does not need an explanation or proof.
"Wala naman talaga. Wala talagang dapat i-prove, kaya sana ay tigilan niyo na siya. At kung makikilala niyo siya ay malalaman niyo na wala talaga," she said.
Enchong and Gonzales are currently promoting their film "Paano Ko Sasabihin" under Cinema One Originals.
The film will be screened from April 16 to 22 at selected SM cinemas nationwide, including SM Manila, Sta. Mesa, Megamall, Fairview, North EDSA, Southmall, Bacoor, Clark, Cebu and Davao.
