MANILA – Bayani Agbayani made it to the list of trending topics on Twitter Philippines after Congressman Mike Defensor mistakenly referred to the comedian as an official of the Department of Finance on Monday night.

This happened during a special session of the Congress as the solons were tackling a proposed bill that would address the COVID-19 crisis in the Philippines.

While speaking at the podium, Defensor mistakenly referred to Finance Undersecretary Bayani Agabin as Bayani Agbayani.

Defensor was quickly called out by one of his colleagues and he immediately made the necessary correction.

“Ay, Agabin. Thank you Mr. Speaker. Bakit Bayani Agbayani ba nabanggit ko? I apologize Mr. Speaker,” he said.

Many netizens watching the coverage caught wind of this such that Agbayani trended on social media. Some of them even congratulated the Kapamilya comedian in jest for being designated to a public office.

After the special session, Defensor took to Instagram to apologize both to Agabin and Agbayani.

“Apologies to my friends Usec Bayani Agabin and Bayani Agbayani for mixing their names in today’s session to raise 200B for the govts fight against COVID 19 virus,” he wrote in the caption.
