MANILA — Juan Karlos Labajo has provided fans with a welcome distraction from the coronavirus (COVID-19) quarantine by surprisingly dropping his new album, "Diwa," on Monday.

The new record, featuring his collaboration with local rap icon Gloc-9, is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and all other major digital streaming platforms.

It’s his first album with his new label, MCA Music, and he said that he and his band were given the freedom to “do whatever we want without context, to be more experimental and different.”

“Diwa is a product of passion while having fun,” said Labajo, who was previously known — prior to his massive hit “Buwan” — for song covers and his stint on “The Voice Kids Philippines.”

According to the young singer, the album is a mix of different genres — “metal, blues, alternative, and typical OPM love songs.”

The album comes more than a week after the whole of Luzon was placed under quarantine in an attempt to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. forcing music gigs to be cancelled, movie releases delayed, theater shows postponed, and TV shows to halt.

Labajo said that he hopes to perform the songs in "Diwa" live once things go back to normal.
