Veteran actor Luis Gonzales dies

MANILA, Philippines - (UPDATED) Veteran actor Luis Gonzales passed away on Thursday night. He was 83.


According to the actor's wife, Vina Mercado, Gonzales died peacefully of complications of pneumonia and heart problems at the Makati Medical Center.

Mercado said Gonzales was a good husband and father to their three children.

Aside from being the long-time on-screen partner of Gloria Romero, Gonzales was also known for his portrayal of former President Ferdinand Marcos in the films "Iginuhit ng Tadhana" (1965) and "Pinagbuklod ng Langit" (1969).

The actor's last public appearance was in December 2010, when he was given his own star at the Eastwood Walk of Fame.

Gonzales' wake is held at Sanctuario de San Antonio at Forbes Park in Makati City. His cremation is expected to be held today.

The actor will be laid to rest on Sunday, also at Sanctuario de San Antonio. -- With a report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
