MANILA -- The light-hearted romance "Vince and Kath and James" will be having a sequel.

Celebrity couple Ronnie Alonte and Loisa Andalio, along with Donny Pangilinan, will star in "James and Pat and Dave," which is a sequel to the 2016 hit film "Vince and Kath and James."

On Thursday, Star Cinema made the announcement at the story conference for the upcoming movie. Directed once again by Theodore Boborol, the movie will continue to follow the life story of James (Alonte).

"Napaka-blessed ko. The fact na 'yung first movie ay may part 2, that's something na sobrang grateful ako sa Star Cinema at sa audience for supporting the story. But we are offering a new story. In a way bagong kuwento 'yung ilalatag at ihahatid natin sa kanila na hopefully ay magustuhan nila," Boborol said.

"Nakita naman natin na 'yung meme na James has left the group. So obviously may nangyari sa personal na buhay ni James at doon niya makikilala ang character ni Pat. But definitely 'yung character ni Pat and Dave may background sila together, may love history and kung paano manghimasok si James sa history ni Pat at Dave, 'yun ang aabangan," he added.

The director noted that "James and Pat and Dave" is about people who were not chosen.

"In fact 'yung hashtag namin ngayon is #BakitHindiAkoPinili. Because 'yung magko-continue ng story, si James, at the end of the first movie, he wasn't chosen by Kath. And when the people find out the stories of Pat and Dave, they will also find na hindi rin sila napipili. Lahat naman tayo at some point in our lives whether tungkol ito sa love, friendship or school, minsan hindi tayo napipili. So napapatanong tayo, bakit hindi ako? So ang sakit nun, 'yun ang pinakahugot at 'yun ang kailangan nilang matutunan at makikita sa movie," Boborol explained.

Meet 'James and Pat and Dave'

In the interview, Alonte, Andalio and Pangilinan said they are excited to be working together again after the 2018 blockbuster comedy "Fantastica."

"Siyempre itutuloy namin. Ito na po 'yon. Kasi nawala po ako ng tatlong taon (sa paggawa ng movie). So ito na 'yon para sa akin. So excited po ako," Alonte said.

"Sobrang excited sa blessing na ito. Para sa akin ito ang pinakamalaking ibinigay na project sa akin ng Star Cinema. Sobrang thankful po ako," added Andalio, whose character Pat will do everything for her family.

For his part, Pangilinan said he feels blessed to be part of the movie. "I watched the first movie, so gusto kong makita talaga ano ang mangyayari this time," said Pangilina, whose character Dave comes from a political family in the province.

"Ako ay seemingly perfect na guy pero sa movie makikita natin na hindi pala ito totoo. I will find out that I'm not really this perfect guy that I think I am," Pangilinan added.

"James and Pat and Dave" will hit cinemas soon.
