Romina (Beauty Gonzalez) forgives Daniela (Dimples Romina) in the final episode of ‘Kadenang Ginto.’ ABS-CBN

MANILA — After a years-long feud that reversed fortunes and claimed lives, the warring Mondragon women finally found peace in the tearful finale of “Kadenang Ginto” on Friday.

In the February 7 episode of the hit ABS-CBN series, a jailed Daniela (Dimples Romana) realized that her yearning for love — from her parents, husband, and daughter — had consumed her to the point of becoming destructive and pushing those people away instead.

Daniela was incarcerated after she set off a bomb at the joint debut of Cassie (Francine Diaz) and Marga (Andrea Brillantes) — a second attempt at killing her fierce rival Romina (Beauty Gonzalez). Her presence at the celebration came as a shock, as she had been presumed dead after a hot pursuit resulted in her car exploding.

With her nemesis behind bars, Romina sought only to start anew, which meant forgiving herself — for similarly being driven by anger — and Daniela.

Marga, too, forgave her mother for hatching plan after plan to harm people she considered a threat to their family’s fortune. Cassie likewise reconciled with Daniela who, for the first time, acknowledged the younger Mondragon as her half-sister with an embrace.

The tug-of-war within the Mondragon family has been the central story of “Kadenang Ginto” since its October 2018 premiere. Its title stems from Romina’s relationship with Robert (Albert Martinez), the late Mondragon patriarch, who was belatedly revealed as her unknown assailant in series’ opening week.

For most of its run, “Kadenang Ginto” was the No. 1 program in its time slot, with memorable scenes and dramatic twists spawning online memes, and more recently, an Indonesian TV remake.
