MANILA—A female audience member died, while another was injured in an accident during a studio taping of the variety game show “Wowowin,” its producers confirmed on Wednesday.

In a statement, GMA Network and WBR Entertainment said the incident took place on Tuesday, January 22, around 5:25 p.m.

The statement was first published on GMA Network’s digital news platform.

The fatality was identified as Estrella Bognot. She, along with another audience member, Milagros Espiritu, fell from the bleachers of the studio after they “lost their balance while singing and dancing during the opening act,” according to the statement.

Bognot’s head hit a fire extinguisher, while Espiritu suffered a fracture, the producers added, citing the report of a security officer who witnessed the incident.

Both victims were immediately attended to by studio paramedics, the statement said, and were then brought to nearby Delgado Hospital.

It’s unclear whether Bognot died before she was rushed to the hospital.

“WBR Entertainment and GMA Network deeply commiserate with, and extended immediate assistance to, the families and loved ones of the victims,” the statement said.
