MANILA – Regine Velasquez will be making a special appearance in the upcoming iWant and Dreamscape original series “My Single Lady” starring Jodi Sta. Maria.

During its press conference, Sta. Maria recalled how nervous she was when they asked Velasquez if she could make a cameo on the show.

“Ate Reg, isa ka sa pundasyon ng storya. Hindi talaga puwedeng hindi ka umoo dito. Kasi 'yung character ni Chona, pinalaki siya ng impersonator ni Regine Velasquez. At si Chona, lumaki siya na may ilusyon na nanay niya si Regine. Talagang napaka-importante ng character niya sa story,” she said.

“Pinag-uusapan namin, ‘Direk paano kung hindi pumayag?’ Because sobrang busy din niya. Paano mangyayari, paano papalitan, 'yung ganun?” Sta. Maria added.

Fortunately, Velasquez wasn’t that hard to convince as she was ready to jump into the project right away.

“Exciting siya. Actually nakakatuwa nga kasi nung kinuwento sa akin 'yung story, nagpunta pa sila Jodi, sila direk. Parang niligawan pa ako. Pero since ka-cheapan naman ako, umoo naman ako kaagad,” she said.

Velasquez admitted she was actually flattered to be asked to appear on the show.

“Hindi naman siya naka-base sa akin pero malaki 'yung parte ng story na nakalagay kay Regine. Siyempre nakaka-flatter na ginawa 'yung story na 'yun na kasama ako,” she said.

To promote the new show, the Velasquez and Sta. Maria shared the “ASAP Natin ‘To” stage on Sunday to perform “I Can.”

“My Single Lady” tells the story of Chona (Sta. Maria), a single mom torn between two men from her past and present.

In the trailer for the series, Chona navigates raising her son, with the help of her gay best friends.

When her only child starts asking about her father, Chona is forced to make excuses to avoid the meeting. Despite her efforts, her path inevitably crosses with the father, Chester (Ian Veneracion).

The awkward reunion sees sparks flying, but at that point, Chona appears to already have a brewing romance with a new man, BG (Zanjoe Marudo).

“My Single Lady” will start streaming on January 22.
