Star Cinema's "The Super Parental Guardians" has added another P8 million after its fifth week in theaters, taking its worldwide haul to P598 million and further cementing its place as the country's highest grossing Filipino film to date.
The feat is more impressive considering that it was excluded from the official list of entries in this year's Metro Manila Film Festival, barring it from being shown in Metro Manila cinemas from December 25 to January 3.
"Maraming salamat sa lahat ng mga Kapamilya natin, sa lahat ng madlang people sa buong mundo na sumuporta at nagparamdam ng pagmamahal sa amin sa pelikulang ito," Vice Ganda told ABS-CBN News in an interview at a thanksgiving party held to celebrate the success of the film Tuesday.
"The Super Parental Guardians" is still showing in select cinemas nationwide.
Directed by Joyce Bernal, the movie also stars Coco Martin and features performances from child actors Awra Briguela and Simon "Onyok" Pineda, who have enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame following their stints on the hit prime time show "Ang Probinsyano."
It also holds the record for the biggest opening day gross for a Filipino film with P75 million, and was the only movie last year to cross the P500 million threshold.
