MANILA — A new “It’s Showtime” segment based on luck had the “madlang people” laughing out loud as aspiring winners chose items ahead of being given tasks that involved their picks.

The “PiLing Lucky” game has contestants picking among objects of the same kind, such as balls of different sizes, or traditionally seen in the same room, such as a kitchenware or bathroom fixtures.

Once all aspirants have an item each, only then do the hosts reveal the related task.

The segment’s debut on Monday, for instance, challenged the contestants to fit the ball of their picking in their pocket. Those who picked small enough balls proved to be the “lucky” ones.

One woman who had a disco ball could only laugh as she gave up instantly. A resourceful hopeful, meanwhile, deflated a beach ball and successfully managed to put it inside his pocket.

In a subsequent round — with the unlucky ones eliminated — pieces of cloth, from a scarf to a blanket, had to cover those who picked them from head to toe.

The format, particularly the announcement of the tasks, proved to be an amusing turn for the live audience.

“PiLing Lucky” was not the only new segment of “It’s Showtime” launched on Monday. “Mini Ms. U,” a pageant for young girls co-hosted by Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, is also a search for the next ABS-CBN child star.
