MANILA – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas on Friday said new Monetary Board Member Jose Querubin took his oath of office on Sept. 5.

BSP Governor Eli Remolona welcomed Querubin during the ceremony held at the central bank's headquarters.

Querubin completes the 7-member Monetary Board. He will serve until July 2, 2026, the BSP said.

Prior to his appointment as an MB member, the seasoned banker served in various posts including United Coconut Planters Bank's president and CEO, ASEAN Finance Corp board member, Bank of America Senior Vice President and Asia Regional Sales Director and Country Manager-Managing Director for the Philippines, and Solid Bank Corp Executive Vice President.

He also served as Megalink President and CEO as well as Bankers Association of the Philippines Secretary.

Querubin holds an MBA from the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania and bachelor's degrees in Mathematics (Cum Laude) and Mechanical Engineering from De La Salle University.

Several members of the BSP's highest-policy making body resigned after reports of "ghost employees" in the central bank. The results of the  investigation on the matter have not been made public yet.

Prior to Querubin's appointment, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also appointed former BDO executive and veteran banker Walter Wassmer to the policy-making body.

Completing the board are MB Chairman Remolona, members Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, Former BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno, Romeo Bernardo, and former National Treasurer Rosalia De Leon.
