Pargas said there should be a thorough study, including the actuarial impact on the state insurer's fund of such a move. According to Pargas, the plan to slash the contribution of members will be presented to the board and Malacañang.

Once approved, it can be implemented in the last quarter of 2024 or possibly at the beginning of 2025. Pargas said it is also possible that even with the contribution slash, PhilHealth benefits can still be expanded.

PHILHEALTH FUND
PhilHealth has earlier said it has a surplus of almost P90 billion. The Department of Finance (DOF), invoking the 2024 budget law, has already taken an initial amount of P20 billion from that surplus fund.

A group of concerned citizens has questioned the DOF's move before the Supreme Court, seeking to stop the agency from getting the surplus fund and allot it to other programs. Despite the controversy, Pargas said all programs for this year will push through.
