MANILA -- Toyota Motors Philippines on Friday said the data breach that it reported to the National Privacy Commission (NPC) involved "unintentional human error."

"The security incident involves an unintentional human error and concerns the confidentiality of the data of the affected customers," Toyota said in a statement.

The car manufacturer said the data included some sensitive personal information, but noted that no information regarding financial transactions was leaked.

Toyota apologized to their customers for the inconvenience the incident may have caused, and reminded them to be vigilant and cautious of potential privacy harms.

The firm also said it is investigating security issues and working with government as it puts in place additional safeguards to keep customer data secure.
