MANILA -- Power costs will be higher by P0.64 per kilowatt-hour in June, Meralco said Thursday.

The power utility said the generation charge went up to P0.48/kwh, but payment for this would be staggered. The amount has been divided into three, and the remaining amount will be credited in the July-September billing.

This means power costs will increase by the following amounts:

To ease the consumer's burden, Meralco had proposed a staggered collection of the generation costs for three months beginning June.

This comes as the power distributor complies with the Energy Regulatory Commission's (ERC) order that all distributors in Luzon and Visayas should wait for the final bill from the wholesale electricity spot market (WESM) before issuing this month's bills.
