MANILA - Financing remains the biggest bottleneck in the adoption of household solar power systems in the country, according to the head of Solar Philippines.

Leandro Leviste, the founder and CEO of Solar Philippines, told ANC that the demand for home solar power “has always been there” because of the high cost of electricity in the country.

Leviste, who is sometimes referred to the "millennial businessman" however also noted that the adoption of solar energy has accelerated.

"Momentum is definitely on the side of solar energy."

Leviste, who runs a multitude of other businesses, said he also plans to help listed agri-business firm Roxas Holdings to recover and generate jobs in Batangas province.

“We hope we can work with the company to turn it around and create jobs for the benefit of Nasugbu, Batangas,” Leviste told ANC.

He also explained his acquisition of an 8.5 percent stake in ABS-CBN Corp.

“We certainly have a soft spot for ABS-CBN. My mom [Sen. Loren Legarda] was working in the station in my first five years. We know a lot of people who are there and truly sincerely wish to help the company. We hope that by purchasing shares in the company, and even just with the performance of its stock recently, we can help bring back confidence of the market so we can work together to help ABS regain its leadership in the media sector.”
