MANILA —The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has prohibited golf course management from using piped water from concessionaires to irrigate their links.

DENR Undersecretary Carlos Primo David explained that water levels in the dams continue to decrease.

"Para sa mga golf courses, karamihan, if not all, actually do not use MWSS water for irrigation, pero bilang paalala na rin bilang kinakapos tayo ng supply, eh kung may pagkakataon na gagamit sila ng tubig mula sa Maynilad o Manila Water ay pansamantala na huwag na munang gumamit sa ngayon," David said in a phone interview.

(Most golf courses do not actually use water from the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System for irrigation, but as a reminder due to our deficient supply, they should avoid using water from Maynilad or Manila water for now.)

In his discussions with the golf course management, they clarified that they don't use water from piped-in sources for irrigation, David said.

Most of them rely on their own lakes, reservoirs, and deep wells for water.

But in case they do run out of supply, they are still not allowed to get water from either Maynilad or Manila Water.

The DENR has also released other water conservation bulletins for subdivisions, including encouraging residents to avoid using garden hoses for watering plants and cleaning cars.
