MANILA – Telco giant PLDT has teamed up with cybersecurity firm Kaspersky to ensure customer’s safety from cyberattacks.

Jeremiah de la Cruz, PLDT senior vice president and head of customer business, underscored the partnership’s significance now that Filipinos heavily engage in digital transactions, which calls for a comprehensive protection against possible cyber threats.

“As we all know, PLDT Home is all about connecting as many homes in the Philippines as we can to the best internet service.That’s really been our focus, it’s really been our drive. But in connecting that home, what’s really important to most families, if not all families, is the safety and security of all the members within the family,” he said.

“We all know that during the pandemic, a lot of our behaviors, a lot of things we do changed dramatically. All of us sudden, online shopping was a lot more acceptable. It really exploded in the way that we use it. Also the digital wallet, more and more of our transactions are now less about cash, more about the digital cards,” he added.

With this, PLDT Home will be offering 24 months of Kaspersky premium starting June.

According to Eugene Kaspersky, the firm’s CEO, those who aren’t tech-savvy won’t have a hard time keeping up, as it’s just a “click and install” process.

He also said that the country’s lack of awareness about cybersecurity prompted them to provide total security to Filipinos.

“So the people, they’re not so much in touch with cybersecurity. If they don’t want to save themselves, we will save them,” he said.

Kaspersky also said that the antivirus feature covers almost all kinds of cyberattacks.

“We have different layers of security, protecting from different kinds of threats including the traditional virus, ransomware, the spam, phishing, and all that” he said, differentiating Kaspersky from other antivirus software.

“When are not just a cybersecurity company, it's total security, we also protect privacy. We protect you from many different kinds of scam or wrong behavior on the internet,” he said.
