The project aims to widen the SLEX from three to four lanes to six on each side, in response to the increase in traffic volume because of economic and population growth.

SMC said the expanded expressway will make travel faster, safer, and more convenient for those who live south of Metro Manila, especially those who commute daily to and from the National Capital Region.
