MANILA -- Meralco assured its customers on Tuesday of uninterrupted power supply this Holy Week and the entire dry season.

Joe Zaldarriaga, spokesperson of Meralco, said the concessionaire has all bases covered to ensure they can cater to the rising demand especially now when the temperature is getting hotter.

"Both in terms of the supply side and demand side, we have addressed all of this, and we are continuously working together with the government, Department of Energy to ensure a brownout-free summer for all of our customers," Zaldarriaga said.

Meralco's announcement stood in contrast to an earlier warning from the Department of Energy that Luzon's power grid may fall under a "Yellow Alert" warning in the coming months due to El Niño's effects on hydroelectric power plants.

Zaldarriaga meanwhile reminded the public to ensure appliances are unplugged when they leave their homes during the Holy Week break.

"Bunutin ang saksakan ng mga appliances na hindi ginagamit lalo na kung ilang araw iiwan yung mga bahay na walang tao, iwasan ang octopus connection, yung dugtong-dugtong na mga extension cord sa isang outlet," he said.

On Tuesday, Meralco conducted an anti-dangling and anti-illegal wire operation on Governor Fortunato Halili Road in San Jose Del Monte City in Bulacan.

This is in preparation for the influx of pilgrims in the Lourdes Grotto in the area.

"Yung mga dangling wires kasi ito yung sinasabitan ng mga truck at nagcause din ng fall down, pwedeng mag cause ng hazard sa public," said Sam Montoya, manager of Meralco's Foreign Attachment Management office.

Around 20,000 pilgrims are expected daily at the Lourdes Grotto according to the SJDM LGU.
