MANILA — The recent trade mission of the United States to the Philippines has ushered in a stronger economic relationship between the two countries, US trade mission co-organizer Geraldine Sunshine said Tuesday.

"This trade mission is just the beginning of a beautiful economic relationship between our countries," Sunshine told ANC.

"I think it just shows the commitment of the US government both to the Philippines and to the region to strengthen supply chains and economic opportunities," she said.

On Monday, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo announced that more than $1 billion worth of investments are coming to the country from over 20 American companies.

Raimondo is representing US President Joe Biden, who is seeking stronger trade relations with the Philippines.

The US trade and investment mission is a first of its kind for the Philippines, and Sunshine said "there are plans to come back."

"I think the USTR (Office of the United States Trade Representative) and other parts of the US government are coming in in the next few months. There are things happening in June. I think let's wait and see for those announcements to happen," she said.
