BORACAY ISLAND - All accredited hotels and accommodations here are fully booked for the 4-day weekend, the head of a local business group said Wednesday.

The reopening of the country's main tourist draw last Oct. 26 coincided with public holidays for All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day. Boracay was shut for 6 months to give way to a massive cleanup.

All rooms in the 157 hotels and resorts that complied with stricter policies are occupied until Nov. 5, said Fiona Molina, president of the Compliant Association of Boracay.

"It’s quite hard na to get rooms from November 1 to 5 so if they want to come, we are inviting them sa Christmas and New Year, holidays," she said.

About half of the 7,308 rooms are still vacant on Christmas and New Year, she said.

A study commissioned by the government showed that there are 430 hotels, inns and pension houses in the island. Less than half were found to be compliant with environmental laws.
