MANILA -- President Rodrigo Duterte said Tuesday he was looking for a new head of the National Food Authority to replace Jason Aquino, who asked to be relieved from his post.
Aquino, a former Army scout ranger, "said he's tired and cannot cope with laro (workings) diyan sa inside," Duterte said in a televised interview with Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo.
"I will scout for a new one and the only way is import more, mag -buffer ako (I will build a buffer)," he said.
Rice, the main driver of food prices, saw inflation of 7.1 percent in August, while the headline rate accelerated to 6.4 percent.
The government has set measures to tame rice prices, including pushing for tariffs in place of import quotas.
