MANILA - Discovery Channel's digital arm tapped Filipino celebrity Scarlet Snow Belo for a do-it-yourself series on its Discovery Kids app, an official said Tuesday.

The app offers educational content such as videos, games, tutorials and books, Discovery Kids Digital Channel President and General Manager Jay Trinidad told ANC.

"We tested it with kids and their parents to truly find out what is the right mix of things, that we have some things that are safe and that the kids love and is fun and the parents feel that it’s good for my children," Trinidad said.

The contents were based on studies conducted in Europe, Latin America, US and Asia to make sure they are relevant to the local market, he said.

"Scarlet was the perfect partner" in encouraging kids to learn digitally while interacting with their parents in real life, Trinidad said.

"When Scarlet is teaching you to make halo-halo, we’re encouraging you to turn off the screen and go make halo-halo with your parents," he said.

"All those arts and crafts that we’re making in there, we’re really trying to encourage you to take what it is and go out in the real world and do real things," he added.

The firm is in talks with different educational institutions to produce more fun, interactive and safe contents for kids, he said.
