DOTr formally awards Bulacan airport project to San Miguel unit

MANILA - The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Wednesday said it has formally awarded the Bulacan International Airport project to San Miguel Holdings Corp (SMHC).
Under the Notice of Award (NOA) given to SMHC, the company will finance, design, construct, supply, complete, test, commission, operate, and maintain the new international gateway.
San Miguel is required to submit the necessary documents to the DOTr Special Bids and Awards Committee within 20 days after receipt of the NOA, the DOTr said.
The Bulacan airport is expected to help decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

A DOTr panel recommended the project be awarded to San Miguel after SMHC's proposal hurdled a Swiss challenge last week.
"The Bulacan International Airport is expected to commence construction by the end of the year, and is targeted for operations within four to six years," DOTr said.
San Miguel said it has tapped the designers and builders of Singapore's Changi and France's Charles de Gaulle for the Bulacan airport.
