MANILA (4th UPDATE) – A Cebu Pacific aircraft bound for Manila overshot the runway at the Mactan Cebu International Airport before takeoff Friday evening, the airline said.

“Cebu Pacific flight 5J570, bound for Manila from Cebu figured in a minor incident as it was taxiing prior to take off from the Mactan Cebu International Airport at about 6:35 p.m. The aircraft’s nose wheel (or front landing gear) went outside the runway,” the airline said in a statement.

Cebu Pacific said all 435 passengers, including three infants, were safe. It added that all passengers deplaned as of 8:45 p.m.

Cebu Pacific said it would deploy a replacement plane from Manila to carry Flight 5J570 passengers, which was set to depart from Cebu at around 3:30 a.m., Saturday. According to Mactan airport general manager Steve Dicdican, Cebu Pacific also rebooked passengers’ tickets free, to allow them to board four other flights.

Mactan airport authorities said that Cebu Pacific flight 5J556, the last flight carrying affected passengers, left for Manila at 4 a.m. Saturday.

As of Saturday morning, Cebu Pacific’s aircraft was still at the Mactan airport. Authorities prohibited it from flying while they conducted their investigation.

The runway at the Mactan Cebu International Airport was reopened at 10:45 p.m. on Friday.

The temporary runway closure caused the following Cebu Pacific and Cebgo flights to be diverted:

Bacolod-Silay Airport:
- DG 6377 Roxas-Cebu
- DG 6928 Butuan-Cebu
- DG 6205 Legazpi-Cebu
- 5J 607 Clark-Cebu

Iloilo International Airport:
- DG 6658 Zamboanga-Cebu
- 5J 434 Zamboanga-Cebu

Returned to Manila:
- 5J571 Manila-Cebu

The airline said it will provide meals and travel vouchers to all affected passengers of these flights.

"Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience the incident has caused," it said.

The airline has yet to release details on what caused the incident.—with reports from Donna Lavares, ABS-CBN News
