MANILA -- Google said it expanded its free WiFi in the Philippines to 400 from 50, 5 months since it was launched with local carrier Smart.

Google Station has an average of 1 million monthly active users, with people connecting for an average of 22 minutes per session several times per day, Google said in a statement.

The service is available in select areas in Manila, Clark, Davao, LRT 2 and MRT 3 stations and some universities in the provinces, Google said.

"This is just the beginning. With our partnership with Smart, we aim to set up Google Station in more locations nationwide so Filipinos can connect to opportunities and benefit from the growing digital economy," said K Suri, Google Director for Next Billion Users for Southeast Asia.
