MANILA - Infrastructure conglomerate Megawide is eyeing public-private partnerships with local government units to develop more integrated transport terminals, the company's head said on Tuesday.

Megawide chairman and CEO Edgar Saavedra said they are looking to replicate the success of the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) in other urban centers.

"Eventually, we can duplicate that not only in Metro Manila, even in other cities such as Cebu. 'Yung mga second-tier cities natin," Saavedra said.

Chief corporate affairs officer Louie Ferrer said the PITX is already serving 55,000 to 70,000 passengers per day, up from 5,000 when the facility was opened in November last year.

He added that Megawide was able to address supply and demand issues with public utility vehicles that initially plagued PITX. Waiting times for buses and jeepneys were reduced to a few minutes from up to 2 hours last year.

PITX is also on track to hit its target of serving 100,000 passengers per day by next year, he said.

Saavedra added that commercial spaces at PITX are almost 100 percent leased out, with full revenues expected to come by next year.

Megawide is also hoping to further participate in the government's massive infrastructure push.

"Now, of course all the 'Build Build Build' projects, the rails, that are for bidding we will be actively participating on those projects," Saavedra said.

Megawide has submitted a proposal to upgrade the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and is part of a consortium seeking to build the East-West Railway project that will connect Quezon City and Manila.

As for the Mactan-Cebu International Airport which Megawide operates, Ferrer said, they expect 12.7 million passengers to use the airport this year, 35 percent of which will be foreign arrivals while 65 percent are domestic travelers.
