MANILA - The operations of the MRT-3 will be suspended for 4 weekends between July and September to fast-track the replacement of its rails that will push up the running speed of trains, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Tuesday.

The rail replacement could increase the MRT's running speed to 60 kilometers per hour, which will cut waiting time between trains to 3.5 minutes from 8.5 minutes, the DOTr earlier said.
