MANILA -- Globe Telecom will launch a 5G broadband service in Pasig City this week, becoming the first Filipino carrier to make the next generation connectivity standard available commercially.

Independent internet speed-testing firm Ookla earlier pegged Globe's current average download speed at 11.36 Mbps and upload speed at 4.94 Mbps.

It will take some time before the entire country can enjoy 5G, which requires putting up base towers and small cells that are closer to each other, Tan said.
