MANILA (UPDATE) - Philippine Airlines will resume international and domestic flights on limited capacity starting Monday, June 1, as the country shifts to eased COVID-19 quarantine, the flag carrier said.

In an advisory, PAL said it was set to "resume operating scheduled flights on selected international and domestic routes" on Monday.

International destinations include the United States, Canada, Guam, mainland China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

"We are evaluating the possibility of operating selected services to London and Sydney during June 2020," said PAL.

Flights to the following destinations, however, will remain suspended in all of June: Auckland, Bali, Bangkok, Beijing, Brisbane, Busan, Fukuoka, Guangzhou, Hanoi, Macau, Melbourne, Phnom Penh, Perth, Port Moresby, Quanzhou (Jinjiang), Sapporo, Seoul (Incheon) and Shanghai.

Meanwhile, there will be a "reduced number of domestic flights" to and from Manila, the airline said.

Destinations covered are Basco, Laoag, Legazpi, Puerto Princesa, Busuanga, Bacolod, Cebu, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Kalibo, Caticlan, Roxas, Tacloban, Tagbilaran, Butuan, Cotabato, Cagayan de Oro, Dipolog, Davao, General Santos, Ozamiz, Pagadian and Zamboanga.

The flight from Cebu to Davao and back will also resume on June 8, the airline said.

In a separate advisory, PAL assured the public that it was implementing health precautions to prevent the spread of disease in its flights.

"PAL is taking every precaution to protect our passengers and our crew against bio-security risks, through safety measures, stronger practices and protocols, effective equipment and the specialized training and expertise of our crew members and all personnel. That's what we are about: Safety is in our DNA, the cornerstone of all PAL operations, and the heart of our commitment to service," said PAL President and COO Gilbert Santa Maria.

PAL said the air in aircraft cabins were being pumped through "High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor (HEPA) filters that trap viruses, bacteria and other contaminants with 99.9 percent efficiency, the same technology employed in hospital operating rooms."

All crew members will be wearing full personal protective equipment in all flights, while passengers will be required to wear masks and other protective covering during the flight, and to observe proper hand hygiene.

Meals will be served in secure packaging, while reading materials will no longer be distributed.

At the airport passengers are encouraged to come early as they have to go through disinfection and thermal scans. Online checking is encouraged so passengers may secure digital boarding passes to limit contact with crew at the air terminal.

All passengers must wear a mask, the airline said.

"PAL will enforce a no-mask-no-fly policy, in coordination with airport authorities, as every traveler will be required to bring his or her own face coverings.

Flights operations have been mostly suspended for over two months as the country barred travel because of the coronavirus pandemic, crippling the aviation and tourism industries.

Authorities limited flights to repatriation operations for migrant Filipinos, sweeper flights for foreign nationals departing from the country, cargo, and emergency medical and supply flights.

Metro Manila will transition to a more relaxed general community quarantine (GCQ) on June 1 after a 2-month lockdown.

Other areas that will be placed under GCQ from June 1 are regions 2, 3, 4A, Pangasinan, Albay and Davao City. All other areas in the country are expected to transition to MGCQ.
