MANILA - Online marketplace Carousell said Monday the platform partnered with food and beverage sellers to help businesses and the public during the coronavirus lockdown.

Consumers can now buy cakes, beef tapa, seafood and even frozen food on the platform, said Carousell Philippines general manager Raffy Montemayor.

It also partnered with Unilever Food Solutions to help food and beverage sellers, he said.

"A lot of our users started to buy food and beverage products so we want to make sure we cater to their needs and help them as much as we could," Montemayor told ANC.

"You can basically get any of your food needs satisfied on our platform right now," he added.

During the Luzon lockdown, businesses and public transport were suspended with only logistics deliveries allowed to operate to deliver goods to homes.

Subscriber base has grown during the period, as consumers turn to digital channels for their needs, he said. Luxury goods have taken a backseat, Montemayor said, as Filipinos spend on essentials.
