MANILA - Payment platform Paymongo said Thursday new transactions grew 4 times during the COVID-19 lockdown period, showing how the pandemic is disrupting people's routines.

Businesses are seeking solutions to continue serving consumers despite the lockdown and are using the Paymongo platform for online payments, its co-founder and CEO Francis Plaza told ANC.

Paymongo has over 9,000 businesses on-board and is seeing more sign-ups from pop-up stores, to telemedicine apps, he said.

"One of the big realizations we had is that the pandemic has altered our lives in ways big and small around the world," Plaza said.

"This pandemic disrupted the routine that everyone is now charged to experiment in new ways and new things. This pandemic has given us a viable petri dish for cultivating new innovations," he added.

Plaza said the platform also raised funds for COVID-19 relief.

Businesses, except essential services, were ordered shut during the enhance community quarantine until April 30.
