MANILA, Philippines - The common station for the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) will likely be located at the Trinoma Mall in Quezon City.
Transportation Undersecretary Rene Limcaoco said the DOTC will soon be issuing a bid bulletin naming Trinoma Mall as the site of the proposed P1.4 billion common station.
"We’re going to announce it in an special bid bulletin, but it’s most probably in Trinoma," he said.
The MRT 3 station is also at the Trinoma Mall.
Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya had earlier said building the common MRT-LRT station would mean around P1 billion in savings for the government.
The common station would interconnect LRT-1, which runs from Baclaran to Monumento, MRT-3 from North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City and the proposed MRT-7 that would run from Caloocan City and go through Lagro and Fairview, Novaliches, Batasan, Diliman and Philcoa before ending at EDSA.
The DOTC had earlier chosen SM North EDSA as the site of the proposed common station. The SM group had even paid P200 million to the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) for the naming rights of the common station.
However, Abaya has said SM would be able to keep the naming rights for the station, even if it is transferred near rival Ayala's Trinoma mall.
The DOTC is hoping to complete the bidding and awarding of the contract for the common station project within the first half of 2014.
